The Regional Ophthalmic Training Programme
A Regional Ophthalmic Training Programme(ROTP), which is now housed within the Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Centre (SZRECC), was established in 2001 and trains mid-level staff: senior ophthalmic medical assistants (cataract surgeons), ophthalmic medical assistants, community ophthalmic nurses, optometrist technicians and Local Production of Eye Drops (LPED) technicians. Students enrolled at the school come from The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea Conakry, Burkina Faso, Chad, Togo, Cameroon, Zambia and Tanzania.
A total of 228 students have graduated from the ROTP from 2001 to 2011.
